The Deep by Rivers Solomon, Daveed Diggs and a few others.

Length: One novella. Not very long. There are hip-hop songs in the same universe if you're interested!

Happy ending or not? And yes !

Who is the wlw? Yetu, the main character, and Oori, her human friend and love interest.

Is there other representation? All the characters are black, all the wajinru decide of their gender with no biological hint, Yetu is autistic.

Warnings? Talks of slavery, of course.

What about the plot? The wajinru are merpeople. They are the descendants of the pregnant slave women who were thrown out of boats, because they weren't profitable, during the slave trade.
Yetu is the historian of the group, the one who bears the weight of all their history, from how they learned to talk to the recent war with humans who wanted to drill under the sea.
But she lives this history too intensely and lets it eat at her. One day she runs away, and meets her human heritage, on the west coast of Africa.

How good it is? I loved the worldbuilding and the writing a lot. I was surprised at how short (and positive) the actual plot, outside of the flashbacsk, was. Still, it was good!
