In your own space, create your own challenge.

Femslash February plans!

I won't do recs this time (maybe a few fics, of course)
But I will answer some questions about my femslash history and tastes (and of course, anyone else can, too.

1) First time you encoutered canon femslash

2) First times you encountered femslash shipping

3) Is femslash the main part of your fandom life?

4) Have you already started a canon just because you knew there would be femslash shipping opportunities?

5) Canon, subtext, or make-everything-work-by-yourself ships?

6) A femslash ship you feel like you're alone in shipping

7) Did you see a change in femslash fandom since the time you started fandom?

8) Some femslash poly ships? What are your opinions about f/f/m poly?

9) Do you feel like shipping femslash is different from shipping slash, het or other? How?

10) Favourites tropes for femslash ships?

11) Fluff, humor, angst, or smut?

12) Are there some m/m or m/f ships that you love genderswapped as f/f?

13) Did you already write original femslash? If so, what was it about? If not, what would it be about if you did? If you would never, why?

14) Favorite femslash ship of all times

15) A guilty pleasure

16) A fandom where I have so many femslash ships

17) A femslash pairing I like on principle without even being in the fandom

18) A character I headcanon as lesbian/wlw without having big ships with her

19) Rec day! Canon or fics, as long as it's femslash! Or even shippable!

20) Do you like your femslash homophobia-free?

21) Thoughts about lesbian tragedy and bad endings?

22) Thoughts about (purely fictional!) lesbian unhealthy relationships?

23) Historical, fantasy or sci-fi? (or, if none of the above, what and why?)

24) A time where a canon really surprised you, in a good (and femslash) way

25) A time where a canon really disappointed you (in a femslash or lack of femslash way)

26) What do you love the most, and what do you love the least, about femslash fans?

27) Very last time you encountered canon femslash. Was it a surprise or were you looking for it?

28) Now answer the important question about femslash I've forgotten to ask.

>> 8) Some femslash poly ships? What are your opinions about f/f/m poly? <<

I like poly in general. F/F/M is good if you're looking for female relationships.

I also like F/M/M for challenging expectations. There's an example of it in Lucifer where he comes down with another man and a woman and says, "They don't call it a Devil's threesome for nothing." <3

All lesbian poly seems less common, but I've seen that too. *ponder* Don't think I've written any, though, I should probably fix that.

>> 12) Are there some m/m or m/f ships that you love genderswapped as f/f? <<

Tristan and Isolde in Camelot 3000. That was awesome.

>> 13) Did you already write original femslash? If so, what was it about? If not, what would it be about if you did? If you would never, why? <<

My one and only series set pretty much in the real world is lesbian romance, Walking the Beat.

The Adventures of Aldornia and Zenobia is fantasy about live happy lesbians.

I don't have a landing page for this one, but the Freedom System in my main science fiction setting has two planets. Sodom is primarily gay and Gomorrah is primarily lesbian.

>>19) Rec day! Canon or fics, as long as it's femslash! Or even shippable!<<

Fury Road has some surprisingly feminist and lesbian threads despite the testosterone-poisoned surface. Plus the most disability-representing movie ever.

"The Host" made a classic Star Trek maneuver: stepping right up to an awesome idea and then backing away. I was disappointed to see Beverly Crusher canonized as Kinsey 0.

The Ursulan Cycle is genderbent Arthurian Cycle. Slash all the fems!

>> 20) Do you like your femslash homophobia-free? <<

I like everything homophobia-free. That said, I'm up for a good round of homophobe bashing.

>> 21) Thoughts about lesbian tragedy and bad endings? <<

Given how much has already been created, and how much of a problem that remains in real life, I think it's best to avoid this trope unless the plot really justifies it. However, I don't think being a lesbian equates to a "get out of danger free" card. Probably the best way to avoid the problem is to have a cast so full of lesbians that some of them can be happy and successful while others are miserable failures, without any of it seeming to comment on the isness of women loving women.

>> 22) Thoughts about (purely fictional!) lesbian unhealthy relationships? <<

As above, I think we've seen enough that it adds little if anything to literature. Unless perhaps one is writing about how women work through their relationship issues to create a healthier dynamic.

>> 23) Historical, fantasy or sci-fi? (or, if none of the above, what and why?) <<

All of the above.

>> All of the above! But if you have to choose one! <<

Tossup between science fiction or fantasy.

>> "Given how much has already been created": Yes but so often it was bad! I want good tragedy, you see!
(If you think we had enough of good tragedy, and that enough is not 0, I'm happily taking recs) <<

Good point. I had not really considered that, so thanks for mentioning it.

>>Thank you so much for answering!
Do you want a rec for a f/f/f canon main ship?<<

Sure, that would be fun.

That sounds interesting.

You could nominate it for a Rose and Bay Award, there's still a few days left.
