Femslash February Challenge: Day 16
Feb. 16th, 2021 08:37 amDay 16 of female-centered stories with canon wlws!
8 femmes (in French) / 8 women (in English) by François Ozon, based on a play by Robert Thomas

Length: One movie, a bit less than two hours.
Happy ending or not? No, it's cynical and dark. No wlw die, though.
Who is the wlw?

Mme Chanel and Pierrette have an affair. Mme Chanel is in love, Pierrette isn't.
For subtext, you could add Gaby and Louise.
I have to say, while i was glad there was a f/f subplot, it's not central at all.
Is there other representation? Mme Chanel is Black, the grandmother uses a wheelchair.
Warnings? Some murder, suicide, a brief but creepy mention of incest, and so, so much cheating. You can see it's a French movie.
What about the plot? Christmas reunion, in the fifties. The rich patriarch is found dead. His mother, his wife, his sister, his sister-in-law, his two daughters and two servants were all here, and one of them must have done it. The youngest daughter, who likes mystery novels, starts investigating and discovers all of her family's other secrets.
How good it is? I love the mix of genres! Murder mystery, and satirical family drama, and a musical! It's very fun, the actresses are good.
But of course there is too much cheating for my tastes.
