I'm sure given your position you already know about the advent of the General Data Protection Regulation next year, wrote Peter Lukas, to Elias Bouchard. However, the Lukas family wishes to be crystal clear that our continued investment is contingent upon the Institute taking its responsibilities with regards to privacy and confidentiality seriously.
The Magnus Institute hires a Data Protection Officer. He sets about diligently booking in meetings, writing policy documents, and training all the staff in the importance of confidentiality. Now if only he could get hold of the Head Archivist, who seems to have vanished again...
(Jon is only trying to save the world, but apparently some people think he should still be doing his day job.)
Office comedy series of fics, the Eye vs Data Protection Laws. (Second chapter: the Lonely vs social networks)
I love the outsider PoV but all we get of the canon characters is very well characterized too, it's hilarious and clever and sometimes cute.
The Unfathomable Depths of Love by winternacht (The Magnus Archives, Hezekiah/Nathaniel, 1475 words, explicit)
Hezekiah wants to share the love of the Buried with his friend.
Victorian religious sexual horror about being buried alive, which is exactly what I wanted for these characters-of-the-week, and the writing is superb.

Mr. Spider sits in his house and waits and waits and grows impatient by the day, and when there’s a knock on the door, finally, finally, he skitters to the door, all eight legs scrambling for traction, eager to finally eat.
He swings open the door and then comes to an unsure, stuttering halt when what fills the boy’s eyes isn’t fear, but something strangely close to excitement.
“My name is Martin,” the boy says immediately, “and I’ve never seen a spider your size before.”
The fic where Martin is a Web avatar but it's fluffy horror. Martin and Mr Spider become friends.
Fantasy by Prim_the_Amazing (The Magnus Archives, Jon/Martin, 13515 words, explicit)
Martin has a fantasy.
Martin has a lot of fantasies, actually, because he’s got an overactive imagination and he’s incredibly gay. And, well, having Jonathan Sims as his boss now really, really doesn’t help with that. It almost feels a bit like going through puberty again, the way his thoughts always default to sex sex sex whenever he doesn’t have something else to think about. Except this time, he’s got some experience to back those fantasies up. He knows more. The fantasies aren’t all vague flashes of skin and heat, fractured moments of a process he isn’t entirely certain of. They’re intricate, elaborate things that he puts entirely too much thought and detail into.
He has a lot of fantasies. But recently, one of them has become the fantasy. The new favorite, the one he keeps coming back to over and over again. The finer details vary sometimes, but the broad strokes remain the same. It’s like this:
“Martin,” Jon says shortly one day, opening the door to his office to glare out at the little Archival Assistants bullpen.
Some mix of season 4 pining (for Jon) and season 1-3 pining (for Martin) that is heartbreaking and also very hot smut, and interaction of Lonely and Eye powers.
X-men
The Possibility of Miracles by Icon_uk (X-men, 4061 words, PG)
Kitty Pryde and Betsy Braddock have an unusual, and unique, offer for the parents of Doug Ramsey.
A missing scene about the death and ressurection of superheroes, and how it affects the grieving process. I was very moved. OK I'm biased, because it's some of my favourite marvelverse characters, but still.
Levy's Eighth Law by Andraste (gen de groupe avec Xavier/Magneto, Jean/Scott, Rogue/Gambit, 2951 words, T)
“No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation with detail.”
Or: assembling twenty thousand mutants on an island is bound to create a few ... logistical issues.
Hilarious chatfic about the current arc. I love everyone's characterisation.
Silmarillion
what you longed by Harp_of_Gold (Melkor/Sauron, 1968 words, explicit)
Melkor has just returned to Angband with the Silmarils and a worse temper than ever before. Mairon doesn't mean to get on his bad side, but he pays dearly for it.
More dark, dubcon, smut! I used to like this ship, like, 20 years ago, and it was small, and then it became big and there is good fanart and good fic. This is one of the gems.
Dracula (book)
Savage Delight by DeathCorporal (Dracula/Jonathan Harker, 9859 words, explicit)
A series of papers purporting to be excerpted from the diary of one Jonathan Harker, dated May through July of 1893.
The mind control vampire hot smut I wanted to read AND also it's epistolary, and very well written, and the way it still fits into the book timeline (in addition to its writing style) is masterful.
Black Sails

Eleanor, this place is just sand. It cannot love you back.
Max's love for Eleanor, through life and death.
A perfect Max character study. There's a lot of Max/Eleanor which is my favourite lovers to enemies to friends relationship, but there is Max/Anne too, and very good writing of the character in general.
Haikyuu!!
you're the brake lines failing (as my car swerves off the freeway) by ghostpot (Kuroo/Kenma, 14956 words, T)
Kenma thinks that Kuroo looks ugly with his head bent against the arm of the couch like that. Then Kenma thinks that he wants to marry him, and is promptly thrown into the 5 stages of grief.
It's both funny and very intimate (and also let's be honest I really love this ship)
Doctor Who
O Christo Pequeno par Umanimo (The Master, the Doctor, Jo, 11009 mots, K+)
J'ai repris ma fiction Love & Master, j'ai changé la fin du premier chapitre et j'en ai rajouté deux autres. Le Maître, toujours sous l'influence d'un rayon aux pouvoirs étranges, se comporte de façon étonnante.
Cet auteur fait plein de fics sur le Maître aux différentes époques, qui sont souvent excellentes. Celle-là, en plus, est exactement dans les thèmes que j'aime. Le Maître, à la suite d'un accident de contrôle mental, se retrouve à cesser d'être Méchant. Je n'aurais pas forcément confiance en une telle prémisse dans le canon, mais là j'aime le mélange d'angst, d'humour, de situatiosn complexes et de réflexions morales qui en dérivent.
The Dragon Prince
Regalia par Madou-Dilou (Claudia, Viren, Soren, 8300 mots, K+)
A quoi sert le pouvoir si on ne peut protéger ceux qu'on aime ? Gamine, Claudia rêvait qu'elle et Soren étaient les princes d'une contrée magique dont leurs parents étaient roi et reine. Maintenant que le rêve prend corps, il a des nauséabonds relents de déchirures, comme un seul corps amputé qu'une épée trancherait en trois.
J'adore cette caractérisation de Claudia qui mélange sans effort ses aspects amusants et ses aspects sombres tout en allant plus profond que le canon.
Haikyuu!!
Éblouissements par Alionouchka (Kuroo/Kenma et plein d'autres, 15711 mots, M)
Toutes les fois où Kuroo Tetsuro est tombé amoureux.
Alors, ma petite soeur a écrit plusieurs Haikyuu cette année, et elles sont toutes magnifiquement écrites, et j'adore alors que c'est, techniquement, de la romance lycéenne. Mais celle-là est celle que je devais lier, parce qu'elle est écrite pour moi, avec mon ship préféré qui est endgame (même s'il y en a beaucoup au milieu).
Mais pour le même prix vous en aurez deux autres ^^
La vie d'une mouche (Tendô/Ushijima, 18640 mots T)
Tendou adorait les sourcils d’Ushijima. Ils donnaient l’impression d’être toujours légèrement froncés comme si l’impatience d’Ushijima ne pouvait jamais être apaisée. Il aimait violemment la façon dont il voulait conquérir le monde et qui n’avait rien de raisonnable. Mais plus que tout, il aimait le fait qu’Ushijima fasse tout au quotidien pour réaliser ses rêves démesurés, qui n’avaient d’autres limites que le ciel, là où tant d’autres rêveurs (lui le premier) se contentaient de leur force d’inertie pour ne pas suivre le mouvement uniforme du monde.
Etude de personnage de Tendou, très poétique.
Les fils d'Inari (Kita/Miya Atsumu, 16952 mots, explicit)
La grand-mère de Kita l’avait toujours mis en garde contre les esprits de la forêt. Mais ses avertissements furent vains quand il finit par y rencontrer un étrange renard. Rien ne pouvait lutter contre son désir de se faire envoûter.
(Et un AU réalisme magique avec des vrais kitsune, mais toujours compatible avec le canon <3)
Thunders only happen when it's raining par liuanne (Oikawa/Iwaizumi, 14900 mots, T)
Oikawa disait qu'il aimait les gens jusqu'à ce qu'ils arrivent à la frontière. Un pied dessus, c'était une terreur soudaine de tout perdre et une joie un peu étrange. Quelques pas plus loin, c'était une pluie de doutes.
Une auteur qui m'a été recommandée par ma soeur, qui écrit bien, mais qui souvent écrit des AU, qui ne sont pas mon style. Celle-là, pour une fois, est totalement compatible avec le canon, j'aime la complexité des sentiments et la narration non-chronologique.
Et une autre de la même auteur.
Planet Telex (Kageyama/Hinata, 3150 mots, G)
Maintenant que nous avons gagné la Terre, nous partons sur la planète volley.
Une étude de personnage de Kageyama à la fois fine et déjantée.
Portrait de la jeune fille en feu
L'autre portrait par Eilisande (Portrait de la jeune fille en feu, 3155 mots, T)
Quand elle voit le château pour la première fois, Marianne ne pense pas qu'il est hanté. Elle est une femme d'esprit, pas une paysanne sans instruction. L'aspect sinistre de la demeure lui saute tout de même aux yeux. Le fantôme cependant, est peut être bien réel et essaye de protéger comme il le peut Héloïse du sort qui lui est destiné.
Haaa, l'AU gothique et fantômes (mais encore une fois, compatible avec le canon, qui est un genre que j'adore) que je rêvais de lire dans ce fandom ! J'aime l'alternance de point de vue, et la façon dont le fantôme passe peu à peu d'une histoire dont on se moque à une évidence, et bien sûr j'aime la relation entre soeurs.
