In your own space, create your own challenge. What’s something you want to see more people doing in fandom? Is there something you’ve tried that you think other people would enjoy if they gave it a go? Dare your friends to try it out, and have fun with it. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Shippez is a verb????

I studied Spanish, so I think I got the gist of your challenge. Is it talk about our favorite (gen) ship?

I had a friend get me into the most ridiculous rare pair last year: Steve Rogers/Darcy Lewis, of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I was skeptical at first, but my friend brought me around with some fluffy fics (on your skin), some porny fics lay your hands on me), and some in between (I'm flirting with you).

I'm not sure what it is about these two, but their dynamic really works for me, in a way I hadn't expected. Team Steve/Darcy for the win!

I came here via Fandom Snowflake, obviously. I don't speak French but understand a bit of it - about enough to be able to read your challenge :)

My favourite gen relationship is Henry&Abe in Forever. It's one of the most beautiful father-son relationships on screen. They're so adorable together! I love all those little moments in the show, where Henry is being all fatherly - "you're about to get what's coming, kid" and "that's my child over there, isn't he amazing?", and Abe is so happy with having a Dad like that. And then, all of a sudden, they're equals, and Abe is giving Henry relationship advice. Or just, you know, shares some wisdom he himself isn't lacking, either.

Just look at them!

It's mostly about Henry Morgan, a 200-year-old immortal with a weird kind of immortality where if Henry dies, he comes back to life naked in the nearest body of water. It only had one season, which is a lot of wasted potential, IMO. It's kind of a mix of Highlander and Elementary :) Totally worth the time!

In "Motive" I love the Angie/Oscar relationship as a gen pairing. I understand and will even read ship fic for them, but I like them so much as partners and friends.

It is a Canadian crime drama. Each week we see who the killer is, and who the victim is, but not how the crime happened or why. Then we follow the investigation and see flashbacks as to how events unfolded. The motive is usually something very unexpected, hence the title :)

I always felt pretty alone with that choice because there's literally no fandom for it but two of my favorite het ships are Dave/Kate from McLeod's Daughters and Emily/Micah from Emily Owens MD.

Even if it's ages since McLeod's Daughters aired on TV I still love this pairing so much. From time to time I still write them - even without no other fans on my f-list.

With Emily Owens I'm still bitter that they canceled the show after the mid-season finale. It was the first time in a long time that a het ship had caught me like that and they didn't even made it canon. We know from the writers that these two were end game but the season finale ended on the worst ending ever for a Emily/Micah fan and I'm still waiting for someone who writes me the epic fix-it fan I'm waiting for like forever.

Nope, my fault:)

My favorite gen relationship is Doctor (10)/Donna from Doctor Who. They have a really epic friendship and went together through thick and thin. The actors have the best chemistry and that transfers to their characters on screen as well.

Friendship relationships are my true love in fandom - and they are increasingly hard to find, I think. So, favourites?
Aragorn and Legolas. I spent years in Lord of the Rings fandom and while I wrote a lot about Boromir and Faramir, Legolas and Aragorn as friends was still what turned me into a fan and what I loved the best.

Josh and Sam in The West Wing. The whole show is full of 'found family' but I adore Josh and Sam, who are my favourite characters the most. IMO they give each other what the other needs. Sam's idealism keeps Josh on track when he gets caught up in winning, Josh looks after (IMO) Sam when he needs it.

Rusty and Danny in Ocean's 11. I'm a sucker for people caring for each other and it is here in spades.

Avon and Blake and Spock and Kirk - these two friendship pairings were where I found fandom and a lifetime interest. Blake and Avon turned me into a fanfic writer.

I could go on and on - there is at least one friendship pairing in every fandom I have.

Kaylee and Inara in Firefly had the most amazing friendship. They're such different people - Inara's the Firefly equivalent of a geisha and a super refined lady and Kaylee is an engineer who can talk a mile a minute about the technical intricacies of the Serenity and doesn't mind getting covered in grease most days. But Kaylee also likes pretty dresses and Inara is pretty good with numbers and a good business woman, and they just accept one another unconditionally, joke around, have girls' nights etc. and they're just so damn comfortable around one another. I love it.

Fee and Sarah in Orphan Black - they're not blood related but technically brother and sister since they were adopted and grew up together. I like siblings who care about one another in general - Viola and Sebastian from Twelfth Night is another favourite. It's so heartbreaking how much Viola grieves for her brother when she thinks he is dead, and it's the emotional climax of the play when they find each other again. <3

Gen Ships? Hmmm

First you are right, we tend to toss characters together, "now kiss" that we overlook the friendships, and families in most fandoms.

Here are a few I love:

Teen Wolf -Scott and Stiles (friendship) These too have the most epic friendship. The "I will always be here for you!" friendship that I could just read and read (and write) about. Even though Scott is more a giant puppy and Stiles is an asshole, they fit well together and will be brothers to the end.

I also love Stiles and his father, The Sheriff (still no name for this man) if you want to see a father and son that look out for each other, to the point of getting hurt/near death and also can make you laugh in one scene and cry in the next, this is the best father/son pare for it.

I have more, but I am going to toss in the NCIS team too. This is also one of my favorite tropes - found family. If you don't see the younger members as on giant ball of brothers and sisters by now, I don't know what you are watching.

Well, since my family has been recently talking of nothing else except Star Wars, my favourite gen relationship from the series is the friendship between Han Solo and Chewbacca. They have some of the funniest lines in the movies, they look out for each other a lot and they are really great friends.
