Day 8 of female-centered stories with canon wlws!

Claudine à l'école (en français) / Claudine at School (in English) by Colette

Claudine2.png

Length: A short novel, about 250 pages in most editions. There are sequels, I like them less, but they're still interesting and queer.

Happy ending or not? It'a a happy book with a positive ending but romance-wise, Claudine ends up alone, so if you're looking for happy f/f romance it's not ideal.

Who is the wlw? Claudine, the main character. Aimée, the young trainee teacher. Luce, Aimée's sister. The high school headmistress.

Is there other representation? No.

Warnings? Some age difference and power imbalance. No underage sex though.

What about the plot? It's slice of life at a school in the French countryside, end of the 19th century. The girls are working for their exams (a bit) and having fun (a lot). Claudine, the main girl, tries to seduce the young trainee teacher...

How good it is? The writing style is awesome (in French, I don't know the translation). It's light and fresh and really coming alive, even if they're from more than one century ago I'm having lots of fun with the girls. Also, old representation! (the book was written in the end of the 19th century and is half autobiographical)
Claudine is kind of an asshole and a spoiled child, though, but a funny, charismatic one, and her rebellion against some of her teachers is relatable.
