Femslash February : Day 7
Feb. 7th, 2022 09:00 am7) Did you see a change in femslash fandom since the time you started fandom?
OMG we have so many choices now.
I mean. When I started being in femslash fandom, canon femslash was so rare that we recced each other every content with canon f/f - often manga.
And we still do this (it's one of the things I love in the femslash fans I knew, lots of people are multifandom and will bring recs to the table)! And now, there are so many of them that it seems like we won't ever get again to the point where we have all read/watched it and waiting for the next one. If we don't like one? Don't ship the main ship? Don't like the tropes? We can try another! We will have canon too!
We can find canon femslash with favourite tropes if only we look.
This is, mostly, about canon. It's easier to find fics too, but I'm not sure if it's because there are actually more of them, proportionally, or just because there are more of them, in general, and also the search engine of AO3 is powerful.
But also, even if fandoms with no canon femslash, we got a lot more juggernaut ships than we had in the past.
Having more possibilities in femslash canon/heavy subtext also means we get proportionally a bit less fanfics based on a "pair the spares" trope, which is not my fave (though respect for people who love it)
