Inherit the Wind and Captain Corelli's Mandolin are the two that came to mind. I don't know that "like" is exactly the right word, but Inherit the Wind has this kind of moral compass character and Captain Corelli's Mandolin has this kind of mishmash approach to history and story that feels pretty real because that's kind of what reality is, a mishmash of a lot of things. I've been thinking of that second book more this year, because there are bits of it with Mussolini's dialogue that are supposed to be accurate and are pretty out there.
